Randall Carnahan  is a musician, music teacher and luthier. Currently he teaches music at Westwood Elementary, plays violin for an Irish band and bass in the orchestra. He also does a lot of instrument repair and building. Randy has played music all his life and did most of his growing up in a music school, playing many instruments and listening to great players. His main focus has been classical strings. Randy played in orchestra all his life starting in 5th grade and still does today. In addition to that Randy plays fiddle in an Irish band and used to lead country dances at fairs. He has also played bass in a jazz band. Over the years Randy has been able to travel with many of these groups and perform. From traveling with the orchestra to NY to perform at Carnegie Hall to traveling hours of the beaten path to perform folk music at a festival for a week and live in a tent the whole time each of these opportunities has been important in shaping who Randy is. As far as the teaching goes, he has taught at music schools, arts academies, music studios, public schools, and private schools. Even an NPS. Each of these environments has served to mold and hone his teaching abilities into the teacher he is today. Growing up in a music store/school also gave Randy the opportunity to learn to work on instruments. What started as one of his chores, turned into one of his passions. In the beginning he only serviced instruments that needed minor repairs, that later turned into major repairs. After a time, Randy realized he had built every part of an instrument, and it was time to try building the whole thing. Through a lot of trial and error he have started to make some rather good guitars and violins. Randy says the most important part of getting to know him l is, “ This machine is powered mostly by coffee and chocolate. I look forward to getting to know you all over a cup of coffee and a few tunes.”
